Change of venue?

Hi Friends,

Wow, it's hard to believe the last day of 2007 is tomorrow...I can only hope that 2008 is better and brings peace, health and happiness to us all.

Was feeling very under the weather today, so lay on the couch most of the day trying to get rid of the splitting headache I had. Once I did, I got myself up and showered and headed over to see mom...I had missed her, having not seen her in two days because of work! Initially when I arrived, I didn't think I'd be able to stay because I started feeling really sick, but the longer I was there the better I felt...she must be good medicine for me. :) She had a mystery visitor yesterday (she couldn't remember the person's name) who brought her a holiday bag full of goodies (lip gloss, Hershey's Kisses, a toothbrush, lotion, body wash, socks, etc) who I think I figured out must have been her Speech Therapist from St. Joe's...she had said she planned on visiting mom after the holiday with her sister, and mom said this person had a younger girl with her (the sister?). She is the only one I can think of who would visit without mentioning it to me, as she does not have my contact info. I wish I would have been there! :) If it was indeed her, wow...it was so nice to follow through and actually visit! So nice, and I know mom enjoyed it!

After I'd been there for about 15 minutes or so, Pam arrived for a surprise visit, too! Turns out she'd gotten out of work early and decided to stop by! So the three of us had a very nice visit, but we had to leave out of the room because the heat was turned WAY up in there and we were roasting...so we hung out in the dining room and had a really good talk...mom's speech today was spot on, and she told us all about her therapy session this morning..she described the exercises she did in great detail, and how she got down to the room and how it was just the therapist and she in the room so it was nice not to have distractions and they got to play music. Her words were coming out very well, and I was so happy to hear it. We played the name game of objects and things in the dining room, and she got just about 100% correct without having to think about it very much and with no verbal cues...she got "table," "television," "football," "chair," etc...a week ago or so and while still at St. Joe's, she had a really hard time with naming objects because she had trouble calling up the correct words even though she knew what they were. I can see a definite improvement in this, and Pam agreed! Yay for progress!! Forward movement!

Before Pam and I left this evening, the room was still like a sauna, and mom decided to say something to the nurse about it with our encouragement...we told her we'd back her up but that she should be the one to say it. We found the nurse, and mom was very nice about it but said "My roommate, I like her and all, but she has some problems, and she keeps the room so hot. I don't mean to be a complainer!" The nurse said she would "endorse" a room change request for first thing tomorrow morning, so we shall see if that happens...that would be great, though...let's just hope that if it happens, the next roommate is not even worse! My nurse friend Anja whose mother is there too said she changed rooms 4 or 5 times before they found a good fit with a roommate, so this is not uncommon. Mom thanked the nurse profusely several times, and I think was very relieved to have said something...she got a little tearful because she was worried they'd think she was a pain in the ass, but Pam and I reassured her that was not the case at all and that she had said it in a very nice way and that it was well within her right. I'll keep you posted.

Have just been relaxing and resting on the couch again this evening because I am still feeling a bit ill, but better. Of course I'm continuing my course of extra vitamins, tea and supplements, so hopefully I'm on the mend and will be relatively fine by tomorrow. I should be asleep by now, but I've been naughty staying up watching Lifetime movies, so will sign off now. Thanks all for your continued love, prayers and support, and to the mystery visitor who gave mom the gift, THANK YOU from both of us! Peace.
