"I'm being groovy..."
Hi Friends,
Today was a good day all around...Aunt Linda and Uncle Tom came up to the hospital this morning and arrived a few minutes before I did to find mom sleeping (she must have had breakfast and then fallen back to sleep), so we met in the cafeteria and had breakfast ourselves. By the time we got back up to the room, mom was up watching TV. We visited with her for a couple hours altogether, visited the atrium where the Christmas tree is on that floor and looked out the window a lot at the snow and the people who were out and the lake. Then Linda and Tom had to leave to get downtown as they were going to the matinee of Lilly's show, "A Christmas Carol," with Winsome and Ben. I hung out with mom for lunch and in the afternoon, and then Pam arrived and we all hung out. Mom wanted to show her around the unit, and of course she said hi to everyone in the halls.
Around 3:45pm, mom was getting tired and wanted to take a nap, so she did. Pam and I just hung out and talked until around 5pm when mom's friend Loyce arrived!!! Mom was so happy to see her, and her dinner tray had just arrived, so all three of us were giving her encouragement to eat, always a difficult task. She was talking too much! Betty called shortly after that, and she got to talk to her on the phone for a few minutes. Pam and I left soon after that to go meet the family for dinner in Chinatown, and Loyce stayed to hang out with mom. We had a nice dinner, good food and good conversation. So chilly out, though...we didn't want to go back outside! :)
Said goodbye to Ben and Winsome as they leave early in the morning tomorrow on their flight so I won't see them again before they go. Pam gave me a ride back to the hospital and ended up coming in briefly to say goodnight to mom with me because parking up to 30 min is free. Mom was still up, watching some show about animals on the Discovery channel, and she tried to tell us about it but we didn't understand very well...for the first time ever I saw her adjust the volume on the TV remote (I've never seen her work something like that before!). Loyce had left a bunch of goodies for mom...a beautiful pillow, some gorgeous fabric, a little crystal cat figurine, a pretty necklace and another little stone figurine...they all look like they are from foreign countries...India or Africa...Loyce does travel a lot, so they probably are. Mom was trying to tell us all about them and about what she and Loyce talked about, and we didn't understand some of it but we got the idea. She was trying to make us guess something, and Pam asked her "Are you being goofy?" and she said "No, I'm not being goofy, I'm being groovy." We got a good laugh about that...not sure if she truly meant to say that word or just said it because it sounded similar to goofy, but either way it was pretty hilarious.
We didn't stay long...I asked if she wanted me to help her get ready for bed, but she wasn't quite ready yet (!)...I was telling her I was going to write in the blog before I went to bed, and explained to her again what that was and how I update it everyday. She asked "Are people praying for me?" We told her absolutely yes, and that had much to do with how well she was doing. She said "Please tell them I said thank you so much, that I really appreciate it!" so I am relaying her message to you. She was completely delighted at the prospect of all of you thinking about her and sending messages and comments...and I told her you all would be so happy to hear from her...those are words straight out of her mouth. Wow, we have come a LONG way to get to this point, and I am so thankful. It is amazing how much progress she has made since her surgery...it is a HUGE improvement...not sure if it had to do with the surgery, but whatever it was, I am so happy about it. It's incredible.
Okay, off to bed...Loyce will be back tomorrow morning to visit again before she drives back to Iowa (yay!), and hopefully I'll see Aunt Linda and Uncle Tom again too before they fly out (their flight is around 7pm I think). Please, keep up your comments, thoughts, prayers and love...especially now that mom is going to really start being able to appreciate it as much as I do. Peace to all.
