A new home

Hi Friends,

Whew, what a day...it was a whirwind to be sure, and I made a major decision, but I'll get to that. Met my dearest Hope this morning for some apartment hunting...looked at two places which were just ok and then headed to "The Bongo Room" for breakfast...SO yummy, and great conversation as well. Mmm, pear currant french toast and thai chicken sausage. :) A wonderful treat. And what a beautiful day it was today...the weather was very conducive to our mission.

Then we headed to meet another person and saw two more places...these two were both great, and I started getting a little excited, but the woman who showed them to us was trying to push me into applying/signing right then and there, something I wasn't sure I wanted to do because I wasn't totally in love with either of them, so decided to wait and think about it. Besides, we had one more appointment set up to see another place in an entirely different neighborhood, so we decided to check that one out before making any rash decisions. Had some time to kill so drove and walked around the neighborhood and began to fall in love with it...for those who are familiar with Chicago, the area I'm referring to is Edgewater, the Historical District...a VERY cute area, beautiful architecture, quiet tree-lined streets with nice buildings, close to the lake and public transportation, etc. After loving the neighborhood I was convinced the apartment we were to look at would be disappointing. I was so wrong...it couldn't have been much more perfect...a three-flat walkup, second floor, private stairway, wood-burning fireplace, beautiful hardwood floors, track lighting, sky light, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, archways, big windows, huge beautiful kitchen, huge private back porch, garage parking included (not that I have a car, but visitors can park free without hassle!), front fenced yard on a nice residential street, laundry in the basement, close to two forms of public transportation, and all for an absolutely fantastic price. I consulted with level-headed Hope who agreed it was a steal and subsequently took the plunge and signed the lease before it got snapped up by someone else at the open house they were planning to have tomorrow. I sort of can't believe it, but it's ours! Totally wasn't planning to find a place so soon, especially not today, but it was too good a deal to pass up and I would have kicked myself had it gotten taken by someone else if I had hemmed and hawed too much. I've already decided the house-warming/mom's homecoming party will be a Hawaiian luau theme, so dust off your grass skirts and coconut bras! ;)

When I got to the Imperial and told mom, she was SO excited...I think it really made her feel as though she will be getting out of there, as it is a concrete step in the right direction. I was able to show her some pictures online from the ad I had found, and she loves it too. I can't wait until we can both settle into our new home! Mom and I discussed that we still don't know exactly when she'll be able to come home, but that it will be soon and when she does, she'll have a place to come to. We discussed that she'll most likely still be going to therapies, but that it would be on an outpatient basis. She was very amenable to this as long as she was going to be living at home. :) I haven't been this excited about anything for a long time, so it feels good. I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, a brighter future for us, and that feels so good too.

This evening I attended my friend's daughter's 1st birthday dinner at Buca di Beppo downtown, which was so fun and cute. Maddie is such a doll, and I think she had a good time too, especially with that cake frosting! :)

Okay folks, off to bed now. No specific plans for the weekend, so will just play it by ear. I'm hoping the weather will hold out at least another couple of days, I can't get enough of this spring atmosphere! Thanks for all your continued love and support. Peace.

Amanda, It sounds like something that Bev will love and a place that is a "home." One more step! Thank you for always keeping us all up-to-date on everything. We all really appreciate it and are still keeping you both in our thoughts.
