Naughty and nice
Hi Friends,
Today was a pretty good day, I guess. I may have created a monster when I told mom she could call me whenever she wanted...last night she called at 11:30pm because she had woken up after having fallen asleep right after dinner (I was still awake so it was fine), and again at 7:15am this morning (again, I was awake)...we talked about it today, and I told her she probably shouldn't call that late and that early unless she really had to, and she apologized and said she wouldn't...but really it was my fault for having told her she could call me whenever. I guess I didn't really think she would because she hadn't been for so long! :)
Got there to hang out with her around 10:45am...man was it cold and windy here today!! Mom was in her room just about to get up to go walk around for a bit, so we did so together. We were in the dining room sitting at a particular table, and another resident came and was really mean and told us we were sitting in "his" seat...what is it with these people and their territorialism?!?! I actually did argue with the man a little bit, but there wasn't any use, so we moved to a different table to make him be quiet, and when I said "Merry Christmas" to him sarcastically, he said "I don't believe in that Christmas crap! Santa can shove it!" So nice, eh? Needless to say, mom and I will be avoiding him and that other lady from yesterday...some people you just can't win over no matter how nice you are. After that debacle, we started working on the gingerbread house that Suzi and Jenna had brought for mom last week...we did the basics before lunch and then let it dry while we ate. After lunch, we decorated it with all the candies and stuff...we had a great time, and it turned out looking awesome. I will possibly try to post a picture of it on here so you all can see it!
In the afternoon, they helped mom with a shower, and then she took a brief nap before her roommate got back and sort of woke her up. We went walking around again, and just happened to find out there was a gospel choir performing in the activity room on another floor so we went to see them. Mom enjoyed that immensely as did I, and we were very glad to have happened upon that. After that, we headed back to the room, and I some more numbers on speed dial for mom and then she called everyone. She got to talk to Jack, Linda, Leslie and her mom (aka GZ, which stands for Grandma Zoe)...we weren't able to get ahold of Betty, but I know Betty is planning to call her tonight, so she'll get to talk to her too. :) Mom absolutely LOVED being able to call them and talk to everyone, and plans to call them again soon! And I know they all loved hearing from her as well, as it's been so long since they've gotten a call from her.
Mom ate well at dinner in the dining room, and "The Wizard of Oz" was on TV so we enjoyed watching that while she was eating. Then we headed back to the room, and mom was SO nice...she felt she wanted to say hello to her roommate and be nice to her, so she did. Her roommate, whose name is "Lula," was actually really nice and must have had her hearing aid turned on tonight, because we didn't have to shout for her to hear us. Of course, she did start in on some story about her family from way back when and talked for about 10 minutes straight before we were able to cut her off (she would have kept talking all night I think), but she was nice. She told mom she wasn't sure if she was some other nationality because she couldn't understand her the other night (I guess Lula didn't realize her hearing wasn't so great), and plus sometimes mom's words don't come out right and she speaks what Lilly and I had dubbed "Bevlish," but mom said, "No, I'm American." It was pretty comical.
I left to go home around 7pm...I hadn't been feeling all that well earlier and I think I'm coming down with a cold. I plan to take lots of Vitamin C and have some tea, and maybe even take a hot bath tonight...hopefully I'll be able to fend it off as I did the last time I felt like I was getting sick. Wish me luck. I'm feeling a bit better about the situation tonight, much better than last night...especially because mom seems okay and in good spirits, and because she sort of made friends with her roommate...we met another mean person today, but one that we thought was mean actually turned out nice, so who knows? I hope everyone is with their families now...hard to believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve. It will sure be a lonely night for me tomorrow, but I've gotten this far, so I suppose I'll muddle through. If you think of it, send me a little prayer...I could use it. :) Peace.
