Back in the habit
Hi Friends,
Ah, Saturday...probably my favorite day of the week. Had a nice day...I got to help out a dear friend to whom I owe so much...was so happy to be able to return the favor, though I still have much to pay back. Suzi and her husband had planned to go visit their son at summer camp this weekend, and their plans for who would watch their other two kids fell through somewhat, and since I wasn't working was able to help out. I took the train out to their house this morning, and played suburban mom for the day. :) The girls were great, and we had a fun day.
Drove back to the city this evening and went to visit mom...got the phone situation straightened out, so no more difficulties there. :) She was doing well, and was very happy to see me, as I was to see her. We just hung out together and talked, and she showed me the paintings and drawings she's been doing lately. Lots of horses and cats, but very good...she's always been a good artist, and I guess she's been "commissioned" to paint some things for the nurses' kids and other residents' rooms and such, and she's been really enjoying it. :) I helped her straighten up her drawers and belongings a bit, and had her start reading the first Harry Potter book tonight as an assignment. I really would also like her to read a book about a brain injury survivor, so will try to get ahold of one for her, but in the meantime wanted her to start something. She called me this evening and was on page 17 and really enjoying it so far. I've also given her the assignment of checking her email tomorrow, so I hope she will follow through with this as well. We shall see. Now that the phone is back in commission and we can get back in the habit of talking frequently throughout the day, I'll be able to give her some reminders. I've been wracking my brain trying to think of other activities I can give her to do to keep her brain going and exercising, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'm wide open.
Okay, must work tomorrow (yes, on a Sunday unfortunately), so must start heading to bed. I hope everyone's weekend is going well! Thanks to all for your continued love and support. Peace.
