True celebration
Hi Friends,
Just got home from my fantastic birthday dinner...it was very low key and intimate, just what I wanted, but we still laughed a lot and had a grand old time together. It was Jillian, Pam, Natalie and Kelly, and then Maggie and Jaye came after work. We just ate some food, had some sangria, and talked and laughed. It was great, and I really truly enjoyed myself and had a relaxing, wonderful time. Good friends are great like that...and what with the awesome birthday lunch I had on Wednesday and tonight's dinner, I've gotten to have some really fantastic meals and get-togethers with some dear friends. Thank you, girls...you keep me sane.
Earlier today, I got some phone calls made, some faxes sent, and just in general got some good stuff done, so I felt good about having accomplished something (thanks, Suzi, for my deadline!). Spent the afternoon at RIC hangin' with mom, got to be with her during speech therapy, and she did pretty great...she does better everytime I see her do it...some things are still quite a struggle in terms of getting the words out, but she does improve each time...I think speech is her most difficult area right now. We did some extra walking now that I know I can get her up myself, and she did great with that, too. Pam and Jillian and I were with her during dinner encouraging her to eat, and she did well...she only offered us her food once the whole time, which is quite an improvement I think. :)
Found out today that she is totally off the Flomax, the medication they were giving her to help prevent urine retention, and she is also off the Seroquel, the med they were giving her to help her sleep at night and to regulate her mood a little...she is sleeping just fine without it, so that is great news! The less meds, the better! They are weaning her off the restraints (the special netting contraption around her bed and the seatbelt on the wheelchair), and she has been doing well as far as not getting up by herself out of bed or the wheelchair. She has a device on the back of the wheelchair now that is an alarm, and is attached to its own seatbelt...whenever it is undone, the alarm sounds...and you can record things on it, so my voice is recorded on there telling mom to stop, and NOT to get up without help. :) It's funny.
Okay, I'm off to bed. I have pretty early Friday and Saturday nights these days, but I'm okay with that. I don't need to be out at the bars partying anyway...it's too cold. :) Love to all.
