Dud of a meeting
Hi Friends,
A task-oriented day today, with of course a little downtime for some fun...where would I be without that? It started off with the care plan meeting:
The gist of it was that the care plan meeting did not shed as much light as I'd hoped...there are still many unanswered questions, right down to whom is actually paying for her stay there right now, whether it is her private health insurance or Medicaid-pending. This will of course somewhat dictate what the future plan will be...as of the meeting, their plan was to have her complete a 4 week therapy course (2 weeks of which she has already come through) at which time she'd be assessed and ready for discharge (!). I spoke up and said this is not realistic in terms of the apartment situation, and also that the reason I had her go there in the first place instead of living at home and going to day/outpatient rehab was because the neuropsych evaluation deemed her unable to be left alone without 24 hour supervision. I wanted to know who performs these assessments and evaluations here to determine the safety of discharge, and they seemed caught off guard by the question and said it was probably the doctor. I am not comfortable with a general practitioner with virtually no experience with brain injury rehab performing this assessment, and plan to look into possibly getting mom an appointment with the neuropsychologist who performed her initial evaluation, pending insurance coverage of course.
Mom did pipe up during the meeting (yes, she came) to discuss her roommate situation and request a change...the group was amenable to this, and plan to possibly move her to a different floor where there are less patients who require skilled nursing care and would therefore be quieter during the night. We shall see, I'm sure it depends on room availability. She was very proud of herself for having spoken up, and was relieved to have the meeting over with. She was very afraid they were going to say she had to stay there forever, which I assured her was not the case and that I knew so with 100% certainty. Of course she was disappointed that they didn't say she could leave tomorrow, as that was a secret hope of hers as well, but overall she was fine with what we discussed. She feels badly that I am dealing with all this insurance crap and offers to do anything she can to help. Perhaps soon she will be able to help! :)
Went on a much-needed run to Target and Jewel for some food and other staples, thanks to Monica! Before we left, we played some hands of Crazy Eights, and though mom needed a refresher and a couple reminders here and there, she did great! :) When I got back after going to the store, she was in the dining room for dinner and Anja and her daughter Madeleine stopped in! They were there visiting Anja's mom and we'd not run into each other before, so it was nice to chat with her a bit, and mom got to meet her as well. :)
Am now home, having done some chores this evening (the key word is SOME), and now it's really late and I'm tired so will go to bed. Thanks all for your continued love, prayers and support. Wish me luck to find solutions to all these puzzles, and for me to be at peace with them. Peace to you.
