Betty has arrived!

Hi Friends,

Betty's here, yay!!! She made it without incident, and just as I was finishing up the tidying of the apartment, so couldn't have had better timing. It was all spic and span for her (cleaner than it has been in months...a great excuse and impetus to do some spring cleaning!). She arrived exhausted but in good spirits...it was an early morning for her without much sleep last night. Just after she arrived, we headed over to the palace for our meeting...mom was SO happy to see Betty, and hugged and hugged her. Of course, Betty was also so glad to see mom. :) Mom gave her a tour of the place, and even played us a little piano in the dining room...she did awesome once she got going!

At around 2:30pm, we headed down to meet with Genevieve and the social worker (whose name is still a mystery as she said little to nothing during the meeting as was not at all helpful or knowledgable). We first addressed what our goals were for mom as far as living arrangements and continued therapies, to make sure we were all on the same page...which we were. Unfortunately, their knowledge about resources for TBI survivors is not extensive in the least, and we knew more about things than they did, including the existence of day rehab programs available for TBI survivors. Genevieve as the speech therapist seems to be driving this whole plan whereas the social worker seems to have little involvement, a strange reversal of roles to say the least. We brought to their attention the day rehab programs we'd found in our research and Genevieve said she'd look into them and see what she could find out. The game plan is that she will call me next week and we'll really start to dig into setting up a discharge plan in terms of having a program for her to attend in place. I will get moved into the new apartment and get all ready on my end for her to come home, and then we'll touch base again. We all agreed it is very important to have everything all set up and arranged prior to her discharge, so we'll begin working on that. There was also discussion of setting up a "trial" weekend where she would be at home with me...sort of an assessment in the actual home setting of how she would function and the level of safety with her being by herself for some amounts of time. So for now, that is the only info I have, but at least it's something to move toward.

After our meeting we hung out a bit more and then headed out for a nice walk and then to dinner at a Thai restaurant. When we finished eating, we headed back to the apartment for a kitty visit and a "concert"...mom had a little dance party with Betty while I DJ'd, and I have the pictures to prove it. ;) Dropped her back off at the palace this evening (9ish) and stopped off at the grocery store for a few key items before coming home. Now to bed so poor Betty can catch up on some sleep. No specific plans in mind for tomorrow, but we'll play it by ear. My cold is still here but getting better by the day...the cough is really whats causing all the trouble now, and those always tend to stick around with me for quite awhile, so I'll just have to wait it out.

Thanks all for your continued love and support...peace to all.
