Back to the grindstone

Hi Friends,

Well, I should let Betty write this entry really...I was at work all day today so she was the one that spent mom's first full day of therapy at St. Joe's with her. Boy did she have a busy day! Her first session was at 8:45am, and it went on from there...2 physical therapies, 2 occupational therapies and 2 speech therapies. Today was mostly about evaluation of her abilities and current status so they can tailor her plan of care and goals...Betty said she did great! She was very upbeat and willing to participate, and did very well with everything...of course, she had the most trouble with speech therapy, but we knew that was her weakest area so will take much more work. But Betty said everyone was really nice, and things ran very smoothly and on time. Again, we're not sure how long she'll be able to stay there, but I'm hoping we can maximize what time we do have and use it to its' full potential. I'm going to try and roll with the punches, so to speak.

When I arrived this evening after work, mom and Betty were just hanging out...we had a very good evening, laughing and talking quite a bit. At one point, we were talking about what she did in her therapy sessions, and got to asking mom what the month was...she was having a little trouble coming out with it, and then I asked her what month Christmas was in...she then got it...then I asked her if she remembered the date of Christmas, and almost without hesitation she said December 25. She had more trouble with the year...we think she knows it has a "7" in it, but she doesn't always come out with the right combo of numbers. She did get her date of birth (again with more help for the year) too! It was actually very impressive, and Betty and I were pleasantly surprised! She talked to Sofie (Betty's daughter, my cousin) on the phone tonight too, and really enjoyed that. :)

So, Betty flies out tomorrow...awwwww. :( It's been so nice having her here, and I'm already looking forward to the next visit, whenever that may be. It will be nice to have Aunt Linda, Uncle Tom, and my cousin Winsome and her husband Ben come this weekend, though! Yay!!! Well, until tomorrow...thanks everyone as always for your continued love and support. It's helping!
